Alan Brinson, Executive Director of the European Fire Sprinkler Network, reports that the French Interior Ministry will consider fire sprinkler requirements for very high buildings. At a recent board meeting of the French Chapter of the SFPE, Jean-Michel d'Hoop, who is a member of the high-rise building committee, said they are currently working on a code for very high buildings. What is to be considered a very high building has not yet been defined but it is likely to be 200-250m in height. Such buildings will be sprinklered. The committee is also considering a requirement for sprinklers in lower buildings if they have a shopping centre on the lower floors.
